Frequently Asked Questions
What is a tissue culture?
Tissue culture is a method of growing plants in a sterile laboratory environment. Plantlets grow inside sealed containers with a nutrient-rich growing medium until they are ready to begin acclimation.
Are your tissue cultures already acclimated?
No. Unless a listing specifically states otherwise, our tissue cultures are sold in vitro, meaning they are still sealed in their tissue culture container and have not been acclimated. Please read our Tissue Culture Care Guide before opening your culture.
What exactly will I receive?
You will receive the plant variety listed in the product description. The actual tissue culture you receive is seller's choice from our available inventory of that variety.
Because plants are living things, each culture is unique. Size, number of leaves, root development, coloration, and overall appearance may vary. Product photos represent the variety and general quality you can expect, but the exact item pictured is not guaranteed unless specifically stated in the listing.

How many plants come in one tissue culture?
The number of plantlets can vary. Unless a specific quantity is stated in the product listing, the purchase is for one tissue culture container and not a guaranteed number of individual plantlets.
Is variegation guaranteed?
Plants sold as variegated varieties may vary in color, pattern, and level of variegation from plant to plant. Variegation can also change as the plant grows, so future levels or patterns of variegation cannot be guaranteed.
When do you ship?
Feral Tropics generally ships live plants and tissue cultures Monday through Wednesday to reduce the chance of packages sitting in carrier facilities over the weekend. Shipping may be delayed because of extreme temperatures, severe weather, holidays, or other conditions that could put your plants at risk.
Where do you ship?
Feral Tropics currently ships within the United States only. We do not offer international shipping at this time.
Will you ship during extreme hot or cold weather?
We monitor weather conditions and may temporarily hold an order when we believe shipping conditions could put the plants at significant risk.
What if my package is delayed?
Once a package has been accepted by the carrier, transit times are outside our direct control. If your order arrives dead or severely damaged, please follow the claim process described in our Shipping & Live Arrival Policy.
What if my tissue culture arrives dead or severely damaged?
Contact Feral Tropics within 24 hours of carrier-confirmed delivery. You will need your order number and clear photographs of the tissue culture and packaging. If the shipping box is damaged, please photograph that as well.
Please do not remove a tissue culture from its sealed container before taking claim photos.

What if I lose my tissue culture during acclimation?
Our live-arrival guarantee covers the condition of the tissue culture when it arrives. Once a culture has been opened, its growing environment and care are outside our control. Losses that occur after opening or during acclimation are not covered by our live-arrival guarantee.
Is condensation inside the container normal?
Yes. Some condensation inside a sealed tissue culture container can be completely normal. Condensation, minor cosmetic changes, or temporary shipping stress do not necessarily mean there is a problem with the culture.
What if I see contamination before opening my tissue culture?
Do not open the container. Take clear photographs while the culture is still sealed. If the culture arrived severely affected, follow the claim instructions in our Shipping & Live Arrival Policy.
Can multiple plants be shipped together?
When possible, multiple items purchased in the same order will be packaged together to reduce unnecessary packaging and shipping costs, provided they can be shipped together safely.
Do you offer local pickup?
Feral Tropics does not currently offer local pickup. We are an online plant shop and do not offer customer pickup or shopping at our growing location.
Do you accept returns?
Because plants and tissue cultures are living, perishable products, we do not accept general returns. Plants that arrive dead or severely damaged are handled according to our Shipping & Live Arrival Policy.
Will Feral Tropics sell acclimated plants too?
Yes! Feral Tropics is starting with tissue cultures, but we are also growing plants for future releases. Additional plants and sizes will be added as our inventory grows.
